November 11, 2004 : war and imperialism
Nov. 11th, 2004 @ 01:19 am
Rank imperialism and warmongering are not American traditions or values. We do not need to dominate the world.
Taken from The Best Liberal Quotes Ever, compiled by William Martin.
i've read a little bit by both...do you have any suggestions?
i didn't meant the quote as an authority how the us "actually is"...just as one thought by one person. what do you personally think about it?
and welcome, first non-moderator member =) thanks for joining.
I'd have to say I disagree.
I think if you look at the history of America, we ARE imperialists. Maybe warmongering is a bit harsh (at least pre-Iraq), but we've defintiely always been of the mindset that we're the best and should make sure everyone knows it.
personally... i'm tired of being looked at as the world police. (and when i say police, think rodney king debacle.)
all the "the US is the best, screw the rest," "the rest of the world doesn't matter, we're the best, they're jealous" (etc) mentalities drive me insane. (and by the way, i am NOT saying you are of that mentality)...
like, when someone says "god bless the usa" to me, i reply back with something like "god bless the whole world, not just us."
(ps. love you. and how are you?)
yeah, i know you're right. it should be "bless the universe" or "bless the whole world" definitely. but i have to admit, America is one of the better countries to live in. and apparently alot of other people think so...what are our immigration numbers? i don't even know. haha. and i'm not saying that other countries are horrible places to live, because i'd totally live in the Netherlands or Costa Rica. Costa Rica because it's a peaceful place with no militia. the Netherlands because it's just great. Amsterdam claims to be the "most liberal city on Earth!" haha. Too bad they tax you up the ass tho'.
i'm doing good, thanks.
sore throat today, like you. though prolly not at bad as yours.
no work today, which is a divine thing! :D
true true. one only has to look at the native american situation as maybe the first imperialist tendency of this country.
i think the warmongering part of the quote definitely applies to the iraq situation. i should find a date for this quote to try to figure out when she said it.
and amen to your world police/rodney king comment.
